Friday’s Child Is Loving And Giving: 10 Books In 9 Weeks
February 27 2015

Continuing on from my post “Live life like everyday is your birthday” I have decided to write a monthly feature aptly called Friday’s Child Is Loving And Giving (as I was born on a Friday). The aim of these posts will be to share with you other blog posts, articles, videos, books and quotes that I have discovered all based on a theme of self-love.

In true Photographic Blonde form, there will undoubtedly be a sprinkle of glitter, a dash of pink and a few rainbows and unicorns thrown into the mix too! So without further ado I would like to introduce you to the first installment of Friday’s Child …

If you follow me on Instagram, you would know that I have recently returned from a nine-week trip exploring the South Pacific islands of New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji to name but a few. During those weeks I read 10 amazing books and today I would like to share with you a brief intro and some of my favorite quotes from these books.

You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay

Bold Statement Warning: You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay is the best book I have EVER read! It perfectly sums up everything I have studied and learnt since I started reading The Secret in 2010, which subsequently changed the way I view and live life forever. If you choose to read just one book from the following list below you owe it to yourself and your future to read this book. Buy it NOW!

“All the events you have experienced in your lifetime up to this moment have been created by your thoughts and beliefs you have held in the past. They were created by the thoughts and words you used yesterday, last week, last month, last year, 10, 20, 30, 40, more years ago, depending on how old you are. However, that is your past. It is over and done with. What is important in this moment is what you are choosing to think and believe and say right now. For these thoughts and words will create your future. Your point of power is in the present moment and is forming the experience of tomorrow, next week, next month, next year and so on.”

The Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte

A step-by-step guide to help you create life goals based on how you truly desire to feel. As well as some amazing advice and tips on how to totally love yourself.

“Empowered choices are ‘whole choices’ that take your mind, body, and soul into consideration. These decisions include our personal ecology – how much time we have, how it feels to give that time, where our wounds and sensitivities reside and where our strengths meet the needs of the world. When we are choosing from a whole place, we’re aware of how our decisions bring us closer or further from ourselves.”

Add More -ing to Your Life by Gabrielle Bernstein

Gabrielle, my all time favorite spiritual guru, talks you through turning your life around with the help of positive affirmations, physical activity and visualization meditations.

“Knowing is vastly different from wishing. When you’re in a state of knowing you are relaxed and your energy vibrates at a positive frequency. When your energy is in a good vibration, you know you are hooked up. When you get yourself to a place of knowing that whatever you desire is on the way, you feel it in your gut. You relax into the manifestation process and allow your desires to flow to you like iron to a magnet. Time becomes irrelevant because you’re enjoying the moment and have faith in the future. More importantly, you know that if your exact desire does not show up, it’s because the Universal map has a detour that leads to something better.”

Touched by an Angel by Chicken Soup for the Soul

101 uplifting real life stories of how Angels have touched the lives of people all over the world with an insightful foreword written by Gabrielle Bernstein.

“Call it the energy of love, call it spirit, call it Higher Power, call it angels, call it whatever resonates with you most. The fact is, we all have the capacity to connect to a presence beyond our physical site we are all being guided.”

The Angel Whisperer by Kyle Gray

Being a self-proclaimed lover of all things to do with Angels, it’s no surprise that I am a huge fan of Kyle Gray, Angel communicator, medium and motivational speaker. After reading Kyle’s book Angel Prayers last summer I was keen to find out more about him. The Angel Whisper is a intensely personal autobiography that helped me do just that as well as expand my Angel knowledge.

“Your life is a reflection of your mind. Your thoughts, both good and bad, are mirrored in what is happening in your life. So, if you can connect with your inner being, if you can find happiness on the inside, it will radiate out through your life. So stop searching – happiness is already inside you. All you have to do is learn to tap into it. And angels can help you.”

Magical Fashionista by Tess Whitehurst

A self-help fashion guide with a magical twist that encourages you to take inspiration from the spiritual world while styling you wardrobe.

“Every culture – from every time period, in every country on earth – has exhibited some sort of fashion-conscious behavior: it appears to be a characteristic of humans to take clothing and self-care choices beyond the realm of pure function. On a personal level, there is simply no denying that we feel better on a good hair or outfit day. And when we feel better, we make better choices, exude more confidence and elicit a greater degree of respect from others. Really, why should we judge ourselves for this, and why should we – subtly or overtly – devalue this aspect of human experience? A desire to express and enhance ourselves through our fashion choices is obviously human nature.”

The Little Book of Hindu deities by Sanja Patel

Whilst traveling Fiji I wanted to learn more about the local culture and religion. This super fun and very cute child like guide, written and illustrated by a talented Pixar animator, was the perfect introduction to Hindu deities I was looking for.

“Sarasvati developed a creative community of her own and has come to symbolize the independent woman as a thinker and a gifted creator. Though this goddess has no children, it is widely believed that musicians, artists, writers and students are all part of her family and under her care. Free from a husband’s nagging. Sarasvati enjoys playing her instruments, the veena, as loud as she wants and can sit glued to her favorite books, the Vedas, guilt-free for hours. She is a picture of grace and elegance, so it’s little wonder that she chooses the beautiful white swan as her constant companion. Gods, eat your heart out, because this goddess is not available or interested – that is, unless you have a library card or can play back-up sitar.”

Money: A Love Story by Kate Northrup

Understand how to create personal financial freedom in a fun, clear and self-loving kind of way.

“The truth is when you really, really want something so badly it makes you sweat a little bit when you think about it, you will do whatever it takes to get it. You’ll figure out a way. And when you realize that this is possible, you change your view of your current circumstances. You bring desire coupled with faithful action. And this rich combination makes things happen.”

#GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso

Sophia Amoruso “The Cinderella of tech” comically yet honestly tells her life story to date as well as shares priceless business advise. A must read for all female entrepreneurs.

“A #GIRLBOSS is someone who’s in charge of her own life. She gets what she wants because she works for it. As a #GIRLBOSS, you take control and accept responsibility. You’re a fighter – you know when to throw punches and when to roll with them. Sometimes you break the rules, sometimes you follow them, but always on your own terms. You know where you’re going, but can’t do it without having some fun along the way. You value honesty over perfection. You ask questions. You take your life seriously, but don’t take yourself too seriously. You’re going to take over the world and change it in the process. You’re a badass.”

The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson

Inspired by the biblical legend of Honi the Circle Maker, this thought provoking book encourages you to dream big with the use of prayer.

“Bold prayers honor God and God honors bold prayers. God isn’t offended by your biggest dreams or boldest prayers. He is offended by anything less. If your prayers aren’t impossible to you, they are insulting to God. Why? Because they don’t require divine intervention. But ask God to part the Red Sea or make the sun stand still or float an iron axehead, and God is moved to omnipotent action.”
