Mirror mirror on the wall …

“Marilyn In The Mirror” Earl Moran.

New year resolutions baffle me to say the least, particularly when it comes to self-image. Why wait for a new year to create a new you? In fact, why create a new you in the first place?

Over the last few weeks my social media news feeds have been full of declarations and promises of slimmer, leaner, sexier and fitter bodies. Hat’s off to those people for putting it out there, but from personal experience and general observation, it isn’t the weight loss or more toned bodies that is the ultimate goal. Ultimately the quest is happiness. You can spend years after years trying to change the way you look, but it isn’t your body that needs to change, it is your mind.

My own feeling is that the human body is a mirror image of inner thoughts and beliefs. Your body is a reflection of every emotion you feel, every thought you think and every word you speak.

When we begin to love and accept ourselves for who we are, it’s amazing how our bodies react. Think about it – what living being doesn’t react well to a little positive nourishment, attention, respect, gratitude and most importantly love? Forget fad diets, the latest fitness trend or crazy supplements. Love is the miracle cure we are all looking for.

Look at yourself in the mirror, preferably a full length one, and say out loud “I love and accept myself”. This may feel very uncomfortable or a little bit silly to begin with, but give it a go every day for a month and see what happens. But don’t just stop there continue to repeat loving affirmations to yourself all day, every day and forever. And remember it’s not what you see in the mirror that needs to change but the way you look in the mirror.

“When you look at yourself and feel dissatisfaction about any part of you, you will continue to attract feelings of dissatisfaction, because the law of attraction mirrors back to you exactly what you are holding inside. Be in awe and wonder at the magnificence of you!” Rhonda Byrne.
